Know your chimney
What we check on every Deer Park chimney
Most chimney problems start in one of these five places. Each one is checked and photographed on the visit, so you see exactly what we see.
- CapKeeps rain, leaves and animals out of the flue and stops sparks landing on the roof.
- CrownThe concrete slab on top of the stack. Once it cracks, water goes straight into the masonry below.
- Flue linerCarries smoke and exhaust safely up and out. A cracked or missing liner is the most common hidden problem.
- MasonryBrick or stone and mortar. Freeze-thaw cycles open the joints first, then the bricks start to spall.
- FlashingMetal that seals the joint between the chimney and the roof, and the source of most leaks.
